Gunshots, Arson, Beatings Hit Limbe as Suspected Separatists Invade Neighbourhoods


Limbe (National Times)-At least a car has been set ablaze amid gunshots and beatings meted on commercial bikers and passengers in some neighbourhoods of Limbe, Fako Division, South West Region of Cameroon owing to incursions from gunmen suspected to be separatists agents.
Reports hold that a car has been set ablaze in mile 2. Meantime, inhabitants of the Isokolo neighbourhood say they have heard multiple gunshots.
Around the Isokolo market, unknown gunmen are known to have arrested bikers at gunpoint. Bikers and passengers alike have been subjected to snake beatings. Chaos is also known to have stroke a primary school in the same city. There is a tense atmosphere across the entire city with many inhabitants trapped across different vicinities.
As at the time of processing this piece a Limbe denizen indicated that “just now three loaded and armed military trucks just passed in front of my house now heading to town”.
The multiple incursions on the city which is the last still breathing across Anglophone Cameroon despite over two years of insecurity is not unconnected to separatists’ campaigns to frustrate Youth Day Celebrations billed for February 11.
